Think of it as changing the underlying architecture of your face.
Dr. Bentkover uses a number of different materials for permanent facial augmentation. The most common areas augmented are the chin (often at the same time as a rhinoplasty or facelift), the lips, the cheeks, and the deep groove between the cheek and the upper lip (the nasolabial or melo-labial groove). For temporary augmentation, he uses facial fillers. For a full discussion of his philosophy on facial fillers please see the page on this website titled Fillers/Overview and Fillers/Types of Fillers.
Generally, for permanent augmentation, he uses silicone plastic implants for the chin and cheeks and a soft, woven Teflon®-like material (PTFE) called Advanta® for the lips and nasolabial grooves. Sometimes he recommends a trial with a temporary filler like Restylane or Radiesse in the lips, nasolabial groove, cheeks, or chin before going on to a permanent solution -- just in case you do not like the look. The type of silicone plastic implant he uses has been used successfully and safely in facial augmentation for over 30 years. They are not gel implants; they do not leak.
